The Work
” Blessed are they who plant trees under whose shade they may never sit”

Environment:
New York State Parks purchased the Camp Barton property on Frontenac Road. The village collaborated with other municipalities forming Three Falls, LDC. and will work with the park system to oversee and facilitate the operation of the park. This is a work in progress and something that will be accomplished in baby steps over time (several years). I am so happy this precious piece of land and lakefront was saved from development. Our lake is one of our greatest treasures and now can be enjoyed by the community for future generations. It is a mission I greatly support.
Seneca Meadows is the largest landfill in the state. They have requested an extension to remain open until 2040. I recently joined my board members passing a resolution to support the closure of the landfill. Though we are often hesitant to get involved in the business of other villages or towns, we felt the consideration to preserve our natural areas, watershed protection, tourism, and wine growers had far reaching consequences which could indeed impact our area.
Green Space:
Currently we have a green space ad hoc committee who looks at areas of the village where it could use additional plantings, reworking spaces and finding areas that could be improved. The wonderful thing about community committees is they can raise money. Villages by law cannot fundraise but we can certainly promote ideas and get the word out. The green space by the water tower is currently in the planning stages. I am a huge fan as I have a degree in horticulture.
The public will have input on ideas of how best to utilize that area and berms of soil were recently placed to start pollinator gardens. A 5,000 grant to get started was awarded to the group and more fundraising is on the horizon. Let’s get our hands dirty!
